Health Check Up

Four health checks (Peak Flow, Blood Pressure, Body Fat and Hamstring/Back Flexibility) will be completed, which will give you an indication of your current health levels. Great as a starting point before you start exercising or to gauge your improvement over time if you currently exercise.

Note: the following guidelines should ideally be followed for participants completing this testing protocol: no eating or drinking 4 to 5 hours prior to the test, no exercise 12 hours prior to the test, no alcohol or caffeine consumption 24 hours prior to the test.

The Choir

Will it be Adele, Michael Buble or perhaps Meghan Trainor?

The Choir will release your inner superstar. We'll warm-up, rehearse and then have a little break for tea and biscuits - this is not intended to be strenuous - and then perform to ourselves, clapping ourselves for a job well done. Warning! You may end up humming the rest of the day....

Great St Mary’s Church

Tour of Great St Mary's Church

 

A guided tour around the University Church with an interpretation of the symbolism of the building, followed by a chance to climb the tower for the best aerial view of Cambridge.

 

The tower climb is 123 spiral stairs in each direction; you need a strong heart on the way up and strong knees on the way down! Not recommended if you're claustrophobic.

 

Level access to the ground floor for wheelchair users and WC with disability aids.

West Road Concert Hall

Britten Sinfonia at Lunch

Show your University Card and enjoy £7 tickets to the Britten Sinfonia at Lunch series performed by Britten Sinfonia, the University's Orchestra-in-Association, and one of Europe's most dynamic chamber orchestras. Discounted tickets are available on the door only.

Britten Sinfonia will perform works by Philip Glass and Beethoven, alongside a new composition by Kenneth Hesketh inspired by original Handel manuscripts unearthed from the Founders Bequest to the Fitzwilliam Museum.

There is a charge payable on the door for this event.

Ballet Barre

Ballet Barre is a low impact, total body workout that will appeal to everyone. Small isometric contractions are performed and integrated with an interval training approach that improves cardiovascular fitness. Posture, flexibility, stamina and core strength improve, resulting in a body that is realigned, rebalanced and works harmoniously and efficiently.

South American Drumming

Relieve your tensions at the end of the day and feel the carnival atmosphere- no need to dress up! Zara will introduce the basic rhythms of Samba on makeshift instruments- feel free to bring something along if you have always felt like hitting it.

In an hour you will be a samba band, performing to yourselves, and possibly imagining Rio.

Circuits

Station-based exercise class using work intervals of 50 seconds. Body weight exercises and an assortment of fitness equipment including dumbbells, super bands, swiss balls, kettlebells and much more will be used! Great all round class which improves muscular and aerobic endurance.

A yoga class, which via a series of postures, internal dynamics and breathing techniques encourages a deeper understanding and control of the physical body.
